Home learning

Dear parents,

We hope you are all safe and well and have managed to get some rest during the half term.

As we begin the second half of the summer term, we just wanted to update you on what will happen with the home learning after this first week. After the first week back we will move to a different format for the home learning. The resources that we use will stay the same but we will move to a more day to day timetable rather than a general list of weekly activities. So look out for that from week 7.

If you haven't already make sure your child logs in to spelling frame to have a look at this week's spelling list. We have the logins if you have misplaced theirs.

If your child finds aspects of this planning particularly difficult, especially in English or Maths, you may wish to access lower year group plans on the appropriate class page - the format for each year group is the same so you will be able to navigate this easily. Of course if you have any queries about this please email us on the Year 5 email address.

Mrs Winter has added lots of activities to MyMaths which you can access using your login. Look out for the activities that match your weekly tasks from White Rose. There are also lots of revision booster packs - you can choose whatever you fancy. ALSO there are some challenging activities for those of you who want a go. Don't worry if you see things that seem hard. Just pick what you are comfortable with!

As always work through the planning in the way that best suits your children and your family circumstances.

Take care and we will be in touch again soon,

Mrs Winter, Mrs Donnelly and Miss Daly

Hello again Year 5. I just wanted to say how pleased I am to see so much hard work on Spelling Frame. If you haven't got your login and joined in you really should! There is stiff competition going on at the top of the leader board. Who thinks they can knock Tim and Sarah off pole position?
Also if you complete activities on MyMaths I will give you a bit of feedback. Just click on the % in your scores section and you will see my comments at the bottom.
Take care - great work Year 5

Have you joined in with the Specsavers Sussex Virtual school games? You should have had an email about it.
The first week was Hockey. If you took part in the first week and have any photos or videos email them to the year 5 email and we will display them in the class gallery!

Useful Resources
Home learning suggested timetable.
Please have a look at the document below.
Here is another physical activity for you to try!
Emotional support during Coronavirus.
This website has a whole host of resources which you may find useful at this time.
We suggest that in particular you look at the following resources:
1) Coronavirus 14 day self isolation activities.
2) We are at home right now.
3) Social contact.
4) Our school is closing for a while.
We have also attached the 'Proud Clouds' document - the idea of which being a child fills a cloud with something they feel they've achieved (this could be getting up and doing something around the house even!).
Whole School Song
The lyrics of this song, which you probably remember, are perfect as our whole school song.
Click on the image to listen to it and sing along at home.
We can't wait to sing it all together when we are reunited again.
The English curriculum is full of lots of technical grammatical terms. Please have a look at the government's glossary below to find out what they all mean.

General learning
Welcome to 2019 Mulberry Class!
Welcome to Mulberry Class, year 5, the class teachers are Mrs Winter and Mrs Donnelly.  The class TAs are Miss Daly and Mrs Swan.
Year 5 is the first of two year groups working in Upper Key Stage 2. We pride ourselves on encouraging the children to really develop their independence as we begin to prepare them for secondary education. However, there is a lot of fun and learning to be had before then so you will see all of our children embracing the Loxwood Way key characteristics of Collaboration, Perseverance and Happiness. The children make great strides in their progress as they take on a greater role in developing their own learning, self assessing and identifying their next steps. We are very focused on developing the necessary skills in Maths and English but ensure that there is plenty of opportunity for the children to explore and apply these skills across the curriculum. Our Topic themes in Year 5 are: Out of this world, Home and Away and Light's, Camera, Action - with lots of opportunity for Geography, History, Science,Art, Music and Design Technology within that. We also benefit from dedicated sports and games coaching throughout the year.
