Weald Locality Kwik Cricket Tournament

Both the Loxwood teams won their age related tournaments.  The Year 5/6 team had a convincing win in the final against Plaistow and were rewarded with some excellent team play in the field as well as batting and bowling.

The Year 3/4 team were equally as competent but just didn’t hit quite so many sixes.

On Friday 1st July, we competed in the Horsham District (Small Schools) Quad Kids event. Year 3 and 4 competed in the morning and Year 5 and 6 in the afternoon. All children took part in four events: standing long jump, vortex howler throw, sprint and a long distance run. The competed fantastically, giving 110%. Massive thank you to Ms Cummins and all of our parent helpers.

DE Photo were taking pictures at the event and should be available online from 7th July. I will put up the link as soon as it is available. The event code can be obtained from the school office or Miss Price.

The Quadkids.org website contains all the event data but a few performances deserve highlighting. Annoyingly, our Year 3 and 4's team names are incorrect (wrong way round) but it doesn't effect their points.

For the Year 3 and 4's, we had Seb (4th), Wren (12th), Fraser (14th)  and Tom (20th) all making the top 20 in the boys. In the girls, we had Sophie just making the top 20.

For the Year 5 and 6's, we had Harry Dancaster making the top 20 (coming joint 8th). Whilst the girls had 5 in the top 20: Sai (2nd), Daisy (5th), Anna (8th), Louise (12th) and Charlotte L (16th).

I have created a word document below of our individual places and top 20 for each event.

Fariways to Horsham final at Horsham Golf and Fitness

Two pairs from both the lower and upper juniors who had won through the preliminary rounds at school went on to represent the school at Horsham.  There was a little bit of a mismatch between the prelim rounds where the children used plastic clubs and balls to the finals which was played on a par 3 course with proper clubs and balls.  However, air shots were not counted within the scores and no score higher than a ten were recorded.  The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and each of our pairs were not far from the winning scores in each age group.

House Rounders Tournament

On Wednesday 6th July, we played an internal, mixed rounders tournament. Another example of true house spirit in abundance.  The House captains were excellent in their organisation and control of the games.  The delight on the faces of the children who scored a rounder or took a catch was worth all the effort.  The competition finished in a draw between all the houses as they all won one, drew one and lost one, how friendly!

  Played Won Lost Drawn Position

House Cricket Tournament

It was brilliant to see all the children representing their houses with so much enthusiasm.  The purists of the game might not have been too convinced but I saw lots of examples of good cricket skills and excellent team spirit.  Brewhurst dominated the competition by winning all their games.

Years 4 and 5 Kwik Cricket tournament at Horsham CC

On Wednesday 22nd June, Year 4 and 5 competed in a Kwik Cricket tournament at Horsham Cricket Club. Slightly different rules from the Year 6 tournament in as much as the team had to be 4 boys and 4 girls in each team.  As with the Year 6 tournament, the bowling was our downfall.  However, we reached the semi-finals in the afternoon only to be beaten by a very good Greenway team who went on to win the tournament.

Year 6 Kwik Cricket tournament at Horsham CC

On Wednesday 15th June, Year 6 competed in a Kwik Cricket tournament at Horsham Cricket Club. This pairs format of 8 a side cricket is a good way of including all players in all aspects of the game.  The rules insist on two girls playing on each team.  This proved to be a strength in the batting area but not quite so beneficial when overarm bowling was called upon. The team tried their very best and only just missed out on a finals place for the afternoon games.

Fairways to Horsham golf qualifier

This was a team golf event to promote social and sporting development for primary school children across the Horsham district.

On Monday 6th June, a 6-hole Golf Parc course was constructed on the school field and KS2 children played 6 holes in teams of 2 keeping their own score (one boy and one girl).  Each class (Year 3, 4, 5 and 6) had a 60 minute session, which allowed time to play practice holes before completing the 6-hole course.

The two best pairs from each age category (Year 3/4 and Year 5/6) will be selected to represent the school in the final.

Farlington School Annual Prep Sports Festival

On Wednesday 11th May 2016, Year 5 girls attended Farlington's Annual Sports Festival. The girls had a fantastic start with Anna wining the 600m race. They then took part in various multi-skill activities. All the scores were combined and we came runners up to Greenway. Well done to all the girls who took part and thank you to Mrs Dancaster and our lovely parent drivers.

School Sports Organising Crew

As part of the Sainsbury's School Games awards, we have introduced a School Sports Organising Crew. This is a group of young people (Year 5) that come together to support the organisation of the Sainsbury's School Games in our school.

Our School Games Organiser (SGO), Barry Meaney helped train the committee to ensure they understood their role. He has been in for two sessions this term and will then be coming back to observe the Schools Sports Organising Crew in action in next week. They will be using Year 3 to help demonstrate the skills they have learnt.

L-KS2 Horsham District Schools Football Tournament
On Friday 18th March, our Year 3 and 4 football team played in the annual Broadbridge Heath 5-a-side tournament with a high level of success. We started off by loosing a very difficult match but from then on, found our feet and won four of the next five games. Terrifc effort from all of the boys, who had a great desire to win (as did Mr Harbottle who was their coach for the day).
For more information and scores please see link below.

KS2 Football Tournament

We took part in the annual Weald 5-a-side Primary School Football Tournament on Wednesday 16th March.

12 teams from the locality schools turned up for the tournament in cold and blustery conditions.

However, the weather did not deter our team from producing the best football I have seen them play over the past two years.  From the outset, they set about their task with professional aplomb.  They were well organised, played their individual roles brilliantly which in turn produced wonderful teamwork.

We scored our first goal within fifteen seconds of the whistle for the start of the first game and then continued to score a further eleven goals throughout the tournament.  We did not concede one goal, furthermore our goalie was not called into play once during the four matches, something I have never experienced let alone heard of before.

Well done to each player in the team, your parents and I were very proud of you and delighted with your behaviour and attitude.

KS2 Tag Rugby

On Monday 14th March we played an internal, mixed 7-a-side tag rugby tournament. We had a gorgeous afternoon, amazing weather and equally amazing parental support which seemed to get the best out of all the players. Well done everybody. A great example of Loxwood School House Competitions at it's best.

KS2 Cross Country at Christ’s Hospital

On Thursday 3rd March, some children from Years 4, 5 and 6 competed against 24 other schools at Christ’s Hospital in the Horsham District Cross Country Festival. Both boys and girls teams represented the school really well finishing 9th and 14th respectively, competing against vastly bigger schools than ourselves.

Please see pictures below.

KS2 Swimming Gala

On Wednesday 2nd March 2016, our team of 6 elite swimmers arrived at the pavilions ready for an afternoon of intense competition and great fun. To loud support, all swimmers from 11 teams swam their very best and did their schools proud. We were delighted to find ourselves 4th out of 11 with some excellent individual performances as well as real team spirit and effort in evidence.

Well done to Joe, Freddie, Lucie, Louise, Maisie and Lara.

House Netball Matches

On Tuesday 1st March we played an internal, mixed 7-a-side netball tournament.

The teams were given 3 points for a win, 2 points for a draw and 1 point for losing. The results were: 1st place to Malham, 2nd place to Southlands, 3rd place to Brewhurst and 4th place to Drungewick.

Well done to everyone who took part and a big thank you to Hannah Williams and Karen Ramsay for helping to organise the tournament and refereeing.

KS2 Basketball

On Wednesday 3rd February, we took a team of 7 players from Year 5 to The Weald for a Basketball Tournament. We were one of six local schools taking part. Our team consisted of Louis, Ellen, Harvey, Katie, Jack. B, Daisy and Kai.

We started the afternoon with a skills session and then went on to play 3 games; losing the first two and winning the last one.

Congratulations to Louis and Ellen who were our top scorers (and had to shoot into very high baskets)! We played well as a team and it was a fun and lively tournament.

KS2 Tag Rugby

On 20th January, we took a mixed team of Year 4 and 5 boys and girls to The Weald for a Tag Rugby tournament.

Our team played exceptionally well during the group stages, finishing first in the group which placed us final against Rudgwick.

Again, we played really well especially as Rudgwick had brought a full Year 6 team to the tournament. Both teams played with terrific levels of skill and respect for one another. Rudgwick scored 3 tries to our 2, meaning that we were in a very well deserved second place.

Horsham Primary Schools Netball League

On Wednesday 21st October, the A Team took part  in the first Horsham Netball League competition of the year. The kids played some excellent netball and we were very pleased with their performance and attitude.

They played particularly well in their first match despite the defeat. Shelly had a strong team but some solid defending from Eloise and Daisy stopped the score from running away. Lucie in particular had a great game as GA and Maisie was invaluable at backing her up on the circle edge-they made a great pair!

The second match was against Holbrook. Again, another strong team with lots of boys on their side, but nothing could get past Kiran, she certainly managed to keep the boys at bay with her brilliant defending. Joe was a demon at the other end, he reads the game very well and follows instructions which is such a delightful novelty! Always in the right place at the right time.

Plenty to work on though before the next round but some really promising stuff today.
L-KS2 Multi-Skills at The Weald
On Wednesday 21st October, Year 3 went to The Weald School to compete in a multi-skills competition. There were 7 other schools from our locality participating in this Lower Key-Stage 2 competition. Due to the bad weather, it was held in the sports hall and therefore very noisy! All of our class were extremely well behaved.

Locality Football and Netball Matches

On Thursday 8th October 2015, Loxwood School were hosts to Plaistow and Kirdford for our first games of the season.

Both teams were evenly matched with neither managing to score in the first half. As the second half started, Loxwood began to take charge and had many opportunities to score. With only a few minutes to go, we scored through Hamish Ramsay and were able to hold on to finish the game as victors.

On Wednesday 17th June, the team played a paired kwick cricket tournament in Horsham and were very successful. We won all three games in the morning that put us into the quarter finals which again we won. We then played Southwater and unfortunately lost in quite a tight game.
Year 5 and 6 Horsham District Kwik Cricket Tounrament
On Wednesday 10th June, we played a paired kwik cricket tournament at Billingshurst. Unfortunately we never really matched the enthusiasm and ability of other teams failing to win all but one of our matches. However, we had a good day and everybody enjoyed themselves.
Year 5 Farlington Sports Fesitval
On Wednesday 13th May,
KS1 Multi Skills at The Weald

On Wednesday 6th May, Year 1 and 2 participated in the locality Multi Skills Festival held at the Weald. Unfortunatly due to the weather it was moved to the Sports Hall. With 6 other schools competing, the noise levels were fairly high! The children represented the school well and we would like to thank all of our parent helpers.
Horsham District Primary Schools Netball League

On 6th May, Loxwood had an impressive game in the final Horsham District Primary Schools Netball league, against Heron Way wining 11-4. Please see link below for more details.

U-KS2 7-a-side Football Tournament at The Weald School

This tournament was run by The Weald for the locality schools using their artificial surface.  6 teams took part allowing for a round robin tournament, this meant that each team played 5 games.  We ended in winning 2 and drawing 3, not conceding a goal until our last match!  The team played exceptionally well, particularly in defence.  We concluded the tournament in a very creditable second place, only two points behind the winners from Billingshurst School.

KS2 Inter-house Hockey, Spring 2015

On 11th March 2015 we held our first inter-house competition which proved to be very successful and enjoyed both by participants and onlookers. The atmosphere was enhanced considerably by the enthusiastic drumming and cheerleading led by Andy. The scores were incredibly close, Brewhurst and Malham both finishing with 7 points and the same goal difference. Drungewick came third with three points followed by Southlands. Thank you very much to Mr Wren who has helped with the hockey coaching this term.

Horsham and Billingshurst area Swimming Gala

On Tuesday 10th March, Mrs Winter took 5 children from Years 5 and 6 to compete in the Horsham and Billingshurst area swimming gala held at Horsham Pavilions. There were A and B competitions. Out of the 8 schools competing in our section, we came 6th. For more information please seehttp://horshamleisurelink.co.uk/news/864/15/Billingshurst-are-Double-Swim-Champions.php

KS2 Cross Country at Christ’s Hospital

On 5th March, some children from Years 4, 5 and 6 competed against 22 other schools at Christ’s Hospital in the Horsham District Cross Country Festival. Both boys and girls teams represented the school really well finishing 8th and 13th respectively, competing against vastly bigger schools than ourselves.

Horsham District Primary Schools Netball League

After half term, the Horsham District Primary Schools Netball League saw some alterations with various teams being promoted and demoted. This was the first meeting of phase 2 and Loxwood scooped up 3 points. For more information please see: http://horshamleisurelink.co.uk/news/861/15/Northolmes-and-Plaistow-Make-Good-Starts.php

On 23rd January 2015, Loxwood played in their 3rd meeting of the Horsham District Primary Schools Netball League. We only played one game and drew against Greenway 2-All, which saw them promoted into B division. For more information please see: http://horshamleisurelink.co.uk/news/849/15/Nuthurst-Promoted.php

7-a-side Tag Rugby Tournament at The Weald School

On 21st January, Loxwood competed in a Weald family 7-a-side Tag-Rugby tournament. Unfortunately (due to Forest Schools) year 5 were unable to attend but we had enough children for two teams of willing but inexperienced players in this round robin tournament.  Although our inexperience showed in the results, there was some fabulous play and commitment from various individuals.

It was a very wet, cold and muddy event but the children dug deep and were a credit to the school. School Sports Organising Crew

As part of the Sainsbury's School Games awards, we have introduced a School Sports Organising Crew. This is a group of young people (Year 6) that come together to support the organisation of the Sainsbury's School Games in our school.

Our School Games Organiser (SGO), Barry Meaney helped train the committee to ensure they understood their role. He came in for two afternoons of training in September and then came back to observe the Schools Sports Organising Crew in action in October. They used Year 2 to help demonstrate the skills they have learnt.

Locality Football and Netball Matches

On 2nd October 2014, Loxwood School were hosts to Plaistow and Kirdford for our first games of the season.

The B team started, at the beginning of the game they were a little like bees around a honey pot, until they became aware of the need to play in specific positions. Plaistow went ahead with a very well taken goal. During the 2nd half, Loxwood began to apply pressure and were soon level. Despite the best efforts from many members of the team, the score remained at 1 all.

The A team conceded a goal very early in the game due to players playing in new positions. As they became more aware of not only their positions but the support from other team mates, they grabbed a very well taken equaliser. We continued to impress and soon went 2-1 up. During the later part of the 2nd half we missed several good scoring opportunities which would come back to bite us as Plaistow scored a further 2 goals in the final 3 minutes of the game.

Netball report to come...
