Success at Southwater Cricket Club
On Wednesday 21st June, Year 4 and 5 children competed in a Kwik Cricket tournament at Southwater Cricket Club. Progressing from the morning group phase with a loss and two wins, we managed to win both the quarter final and semi-final, earning us a place at The County Finals on Wednesday 5th July.

The competition took the same format as the Year 6 competition last week. In the group phases in the morning, we faced a tough game against Southwater and we lost our first game by 54 runs. Tom got us off to a great start batting and we fielded well with Lilly catching a fantastic ball to boost moral.
We went into the second game against Heronway slightly deflated but with much better tactics, improved bowling from all the children and great batting from Tom and Fraser, we won our game by 54 runs. Well done to Lizzie for getting a wicket and Tom who took two catches.
Tiring in hot conditions, we faced we faced Kinsglea in the final game of the group stages. We lacked concentration fielding and didn't take any wickets but managed to win the game by 34 runs. Consequently, we progressed into the quarter finals, finishing 2nd in our group.
In the quarter-finals, we faced Holbrook who got off to a good start batting, realising that the boundaries were not even and allowing them to pick up a lot of 6s. This left us with a big score to chase. Due to a couple of heat induced silly mistakes, it was an incredibly close game that came right down to the last over. Luckily  we scraped a win by 5 runs.
In the semi-finals, we moved to a new pitch that we had not yet played on and faced Shelley who had won all their previous games. Unfortunately it took us a while to realise that the boundaries were further away than we were used to, meaning that a lot of the batters were not scoring as well as they had done. Thanks to some accurate speedy bowling from Seb, two great catches from Fraser,   another wicket from Lizzie and some clever batting from the boys, we by 4 runs.
Both winning teams from the two semi-finals have earned a place at The County Finals on Wednesday 5th July. A huge congratulations to all those children who played their part and also to Mrs Bonney who helped officiate.

Year 6 Horsham District Kwik Cricket Tournament

On Wednesday 14th June, Year 6 competed in a Kwik Cricket tournament at Horsham Cricket Club. A wide range of schools attend and were split into four groups for the morning. We played two games and worked well as a team. Milly and Harry's bowling was fantastic, both getting wickets in the first game. It was an evenly matched group with all three teams winning a game and losing a game. However, due to our good run rate, we qualified for the quarter finals.

Although our fielding and bowling had improved by then, we faced an all boys team from Holbrook in the quarter finals who were all very experienced bowlers. This made batting really tricky and we lost the game.

Finally we faced St James in the 5th place play offs. This was a much more evenly matched fixture with some fantastic batting from Ellen and Kai and more consistent bowling, ensuring we won by 15 runs.

A huge thank you to Mr Dancaster who helped officiate and coach the team.

House Matches

KS2 Hockey

On Wednesday 29th March, we played an internal, mixed 7-a-side Hockey tournament. I was particularly impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment from all the children but especially Year 3 who were playing against children up to three years older than them.

L-KS2 Tennis Festival

On Tuesday 16th May 2017, 10 children from Year 3 and 4 were chosen to represent the school at a tennis festival held at Billingshurst Tennis Club.  The weather was on its best behaviour to allow coaches from the host club, Rudgwick LTC and Slinfold LTC to deploy their considerable expertise to full effect.

The first section of the afternoon allowed the children rotate around four skill stations – serve, ground strokes, volley and movement. Technical skills absorbed, it was time to take in Greg Rusedski’s (former world ranked No 4 player and US Open finalist) unexpected visit as part of the mid-afternoon break. Various children from each school were given the opportunity to play against him with Sam even managing to beat him in a rally.

Back on court, the second half the activity offer involved employing the skills learned in matches and as coaches put a host of formats into operation the competitive juices flowed.

Horsham District Netball League Division B (Phase 2, Meet 3)
On Wednesday 29th March, we played in the last meeting of the Horsham District Netball Tournament. Due to Plaistow and Kirdford dropping out, we only had one game to play and faced Leechpool in the 3rd place play offs. We started off well in the first quarter and continued to improve winning the game 6-4.

Sussex U11 Basketball Finals at Millais

On Thursday 30th March we competed in the Sussex U11 Basketball finals. We faced incredibly tough competition from much larger schools.
In our first game, we played against Southwater A who won 40-2. This was a bit of an eye opener for the team, realising we had to be lot more physical if we were to score. Fraser and Tom both scored one each.
The second game was fairly similar, facing Holmbush. We lost 34-0 but were starting to work out how to get round our opposition.
In the third game against Watersfield we'd learnt how to defend, gain and keep possession. Unfortunately, we several attempts but couldn't score and lost the game 20-0.
Much improved by the final game against Copthorne with good passing, great teamwork and a couple of amazing long distance shots on goal. We only lost 10-4 with a fantastic effort from all.

House Matches

KS2 Tag Rugby

On Wednesday 29th March, we played an internal, mixed 7-a-side Tag Rugby tournament. Due to the weather, this event had to take place on the playground but fortunately there were no injuries. All the children worked well in their teams with everyone playing their part and getting stuck in!

KS2 Tag Rugby Festival

Twelve children from Year 4, 5 and 6 participated in a Tag Rugby tournament organised by Horsham District Council and held at the Horsham Rugby Club on Tuesday 14th March along with 16 other local schools. Though we didn't make the semi-finals this was a good event to experience. Congratulations to those four children who, with support of their team, were able to make tries for the team.
Horsham District Alternative Sports Festival
On Wednesday 8th March, we were given the opportunity to take 10 children from Year 3, 4 and 5 to an Alternative Sports Event which was aimed at inspiring them through alternative sports including: skateboarding, Go Karting, wheelchair sports, Ultimate Frisbee, New Age Kurling and archery. This thoroughly successful event was organised by Weald Sports Leaders. A big thank you to Mrs Tedd and Mrs Spencer for helping with transport and supervising this event.

KS2 Netball
On Wednesday 8th February, our netball team competed in the first Phase 2 meeting of the Horsham District Primary Schools Netball League Division B at Collyers. We played two games loosing the first game 8-4 to Shelley and drawing the second game 3 all against Heron Way. This proved to be a frustrating day for us as we out played both teams but were struggling to score! For more information please read the match report (see link below).

KS2 Basketball Festival

*WINNER*

On Wednesday 1st February, we competed in The Weald Locality Basketball Festival which was held at The Weald. This was an intense adrenaline fuelled afternoon, competing against five other teams from our locality. After a bit of much needed shooting practise, the games got underway. Fortunately, we faced one of the weaker teams in the first game which enabled us to find out feet and work out a few tactics. Working hard, we won our first two games. We then faced tough opposition against Wisborough Green A and went  2 nil down in the first few minutes. This resulted in our first loss of the day. The children worked hard to ensure this didn't get the better of us and went on to win the 4th game against Billingshurst.
The points were all very close going into the final game against Wisborough Green B. Conceding 2 goals in the first half, the children came back fighting and managed to draw level. Fortunately, Fraser managed to score on the final whistle resulting in us winning 4 and loosing 1.

1st Loxwood (13 points)
2nd Wisborough Green B (11 points)
3rd  Wisborough Green A (10 points and goal difference)
4th Billingshurst A (10 points)
5th Billingshurst B (9 points)
6th Slinfold (7 points)

KS2 Cross Country at Christ Hospital

On Wednesday .... of January we entered the Horsham District Cross Country Festival at Christ Hospital. Six boys and six girls represented the school and were competing against 20 other schools. The boys came 2nd overall with 55 points. Special mentions to Anna who came 2nd, Fraser who came 5th and Harry E who came 7th in their respective races.
A big thank you to all the parents and Mrs Tedd who supported and ensured this event could happen.

On 23rd November, Year 1 went to The Weald for Multi-skills. The children participated in a range of activities to improve co-ordination, agility and stamina including throwing bean bags into hoops, side stepping around a ‘trumpet’ like obstacle and basketball skills.

The children had a great afternoon and they were all enthusiastic participants. Thank you to all the adults/parents who helped with lifts and made this trip possible. It was super having you stay and support the children too.

Jayden enjoyed the 'fun games to play’.

Kezia ‘liked holding a shuttlecock on a tennis racket’.

Billy’s best bit was ‘throwing bean bags’ and Harry loved ‘running’.

L-KS2 Multiskills at The Weald
On Wednesday 19th October, all of Year 3 went to The Weald to compete in a multiskills tournament against our locality schools.
This was a lovely afternoon whereby the children participated in a range of activities to improve their agility and coordination whilst competing against other children.
All the children behaved impeccably. A huge thank you to the parents who made this trip possible.

"This was a fantasic afternoon because I  got to do all the activities I like such as basketball, hockey and balancing a beanbag." (Freya, Year 3)

"At the start, I didn't feel like I was the best but as the afternoon passed, I really improved my skills and enjoyed it!" (Daisy, Year 3)

"I really enjoyed the basketball and now think I would like to be a basketball player in the future as it would keep me fit and healthy." (Jacques, Year 3)
KS1 Multi-Sports
All the KS1 children took part in a range of mini sporting activities that had been planned, organised and delivered by our trainee Sports Leaders from Year 5. This gave the Year 5s the opportunity to show off their leadership skills that they have been developing this term. The games included a variety of skills that the Infants have been working on this year such as throwing and catching, dribbling and dodging.
U-KS2 Horsham District Football Tournament (meet 2/2)
On Friday 14th October, Year 5 and 6 had the second meet of the Horsham District Football tournament.

"We played well as a team and lost the first match but we improved in all the other matches. We drew 0-0 and 1-1 and then we won 1-0 in the final game and came 5th in two tournaments combined. I think the team played well but if they scored more goals they would do better in the future. Well done to all the boys that took part!" (Will Percy, Year 5)

A huge thank you to Mr Percy who was the coach for the evening.

L-KS2 Horsham District Football Tournament (meet 1/2)
On Friday 7th October, we took part in the Horsham District Football Tournament. This league replaced the Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre league that was previously run in the Spring Term because the multi-courts are due to be re-built.
The move to the Autumn Term meant that we had no time to prepare the Year 3s who have only just moved to the juniors and our aim was to just get match time.
However, we were pleasantly surprised. The children played amazingly and were able to include skills they have picked up during their football sessions with Mr Green.
We won the first two games and then faced Plaistow and Kirdford in the last game of the evening. Having gone 1-nil up, we then conceded two goals. With a lot of encouragement from the sideline, thankfully, Charlie scored on the whistle which meant we remained unbeaten and our superior goal difference propelled us to top spot in the final standings!
Due to the INSET day, we have had to drop out of the second meeting.

U-KS2 Horsham District Football Tournament (meet 1/2)
On Friday 30th September, we took part in the Horsham District Football Tournament. This league replaced the Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre league that was previously run in the Spring Term because the multi-courts are due to be re-built.
Consequently it was 7-a-side tournament on grass and gave us no preparation time.
Annoyingly we faced Plaistow and Kirdford in our first game and lost by a goal. However, we recovered well.

"Well, it was a bit of an up and down performance. Our first game was against our old teacher Miss Doré and her team Plaistow and Kirdford… we lost, but for the next game against Kingslea B we learned from our mistakes and won by a good cross and a tap in from Tom. The third game against Southwater C was a record at the tournament by an amazing 7 goals by Alex and we won 12-0; the goalkeeper had to do nothing except stand between the sticks! As Wisbourough Green didn’t attend the tournament we had a friendly against Plaistow and Kirdford, and lost again. A good start to the season and let’s hope there are lots of trophies to come to Loxwood. Go Loxwood F.C!" (Neo Kourpas, Year 5)

A huge thank you to Mr Harbottle who was the coach for the evening.

KS2 Netball Festival @ Farlington
On Saturday 17th September, we took part in a pre-season netball tournament at Farlington. This was the first time the Year 5s had played a competitive match and unfortunately some of our usual Year 6 players were playing for their clubs.
After loosing the first game, we soon got into the swing of things. It was fantastic morning and every player improved immensely.
The tournament proved to be a fantastic kick start to the season. A huge thank you to Mrs Williams  (and the parents) for giving up their Saturday morning.
Year 6 vs Parents
The Year 6 vs Parents matches were enjoyable and friendly whilst giving the children enough of a competitive element. The children were able to demonstrate their skills they have been learning throughout the year with Mr Green and Mrs Williams. The final results were: the parents won the football  7-6 whilst the Year 6's won the netball 11-12.
