School Day Including Lunches

The School Day

At the start of the day:

WOW Club runs from 7:30am to 8:30am.  For more details, please follow the link below.

We open the gates at 8:35am for children to arrive and close promptly at 8:45am. We use a one-way system for both collections and drop offs.  Families come in using the green gate by the alleyway and leave via the green gate by Year 2 (Willow Class). Infant children are dropped off at their classroom door. Junior children walk from the playground to their classrooms by themselves.  For safeguarding, a member of staff will be present on each gate  who can take messages or answer questions.  Registration is at 8.45am. Any children arriving after this time, will be taken to the office by an adult to be signed in.

Weekly Infant Hours:

8:35am to 3:05pm Monday to Friday equates to 32.5 hours per week.

Weekly Junior Hours:

8:35am to 3:15pm Monday to Friday equates to 33.3 hours per week.

Collecting:

As part of our safeguarding procedures, it is essential that we know if someone other than the usual person will be collecting your child.

If you anticipate a change in the usual arrangements, please inform a member of staff at the gate. Alternatively, you can communicate with us by either emailing or calling the school office. This will help us ensure the safety and security of your child.

For parents of children in Year 5 and Year 6, we understand that some pupils may wish to walk home unaccompanied. If this applies to your child, kindly send us an email to notify us of your decision.

In the event that an unexpected person arrives to collect your child without prior notice, please be assured that a member of staff will contact you directly to confirm the collection, should we not have received any prior communication.

Snack:

The infant children are provided with a free snack of either fruit or vegetables as part of the Governments Free Fruit or Vegetables Scheme.  (This does not arrive until the afternoon of the first day back, so children will need to bring in their own snack after each holiday.)  The juniors will need to bring in their own healthy snack for playtimes which should only be fresh fruit or vegetables.

Lunchtimes:

Infant lunch is 12:00pm to 12:30pm and then they go out to play for half an hour.  The juniors  play from 12:15pm to 12:30pm and eat in the hall for half an hour, and finish off with a 15 minute play.

All infant children receive a Universal Free School meal (UFSM) each day which needs to be booked via FEED using the link below. If junior children would like to continue with hot meals, this needs booking through FEED as above.

Alternatively, children can bring a healthy packed lunch. Please make sure this does not contain any nuts, peanut butter or chocolate hazelnut spread, as we are a nut free school.

As we are a healthy school, we also ask that they do not bring in fizzy drinks, chocolate bars or sweets – chocolate covered biscuits are fine. Remember to include a spoon for yoghurts or desserts and a drink in their lunchbox.  This can be a carton of juice, smoothie or bottle of water.

How to reduce the risk of choking

Children can choke on any food. To minimise the risk of choking:

  • remove any stones and pips from fruit before serving
  • cut small round foods (like grapes, strawberries and cherry tomatoes) lengthways and into quarters
  • cut large fruits (like melon) and hard fruit or vegetables (like raw apple and carrot) into slices instead of small chunks
  • do not offer raisins as a snack to children under 12 months (they can be chopped up as part of a meal)
  • soften hard fruit and vegetables (like raw apple and carrot) and remove the skins when first given to babies from around 6 months
  • cut sausages into thin strips rather than chunks and remove the skins (sausages should be avoided due to their high salt content)
  • remove bones from meat or fish
  • do not give whole nuts to children under five years old
  • do not give whole seeds to children under five years old
  • cut cheese into strips rather than chunks
  • consider wholemeal or toasted bread as white bread can form a doughy ball in the throat, and cut all types of bread into strips for very young children
  • do not give children popcorn as a snack
  • do not give children marshmallows or jelly cubes from a packet, either to eat or as part of messy play activities, as they can get stuck in the throat
  • do not give children hard sweets

If your child has any allergies, please make sure you make us aware of these on the enrolment form.  If you would like them to have a free school meal (UFSM), you will need to arrange this with ISS.  Please note, ISS will not provide a meal if your child has food allergies without the Special Diet Menu in place.

The end of the day:

Infant children finish at 3:05pm while juniors finish at 3:15pm and we use the same one-way system as the morning drop off. Infants are collected from their classroom doors.  Juniors are collected from the main playground.
