KS2 Spring House Matches 2022
While the weather was against us again, we managed to go ahead with the KS2 Spring House Matches behind closed doors. The children ploughed on through the rain to ensure they didn’t miss out, demonstrating fantastic collaboration and resilience. All children represented their house in either Tag-Rugby or Netball and were able to demonstrate some of the skills they have learnt during their PE lessons with Mr Green in the Spring Term.
As this was their second event of the year, the House Captains and Sports Leaders were able to work independently, fully completing their roles without support from adults. We were so impressed to see them all scoring, refereeing, time-keeping, coaching and managing their teams. Not only were they supportive but they demonstrated kindness and empathy towards the younger children too which created a wonderful atmosphere.

On Wednesday 18th January, an UKS team represented the school in a Tag-Rugby tournament which was held at The Weald. After a few warm up games and an introduction to the rules from Mr Meaney, we competed against 6 other teams from the locality. All the games were incredibly close: we lost our first game to Shipley by only 1 try!
The children all made great progress throughout the games - keeping to their formation more, demonstrating resilience with their tagging and being more attacking. Clearly the determination and perseverance paid off as we went on to win our final game 3 tries to 0 (against Plaistow and Kirdford).

This was also the first opportunity of the year to fully utilise our new House Captains and Sports Leaders. The House Captains managed their teams and tried to keep them as even as possible. The Sports Leaders worked really hard, taking on many roles including: time keeping, scoring and referring the games.

L-KS2 Multi Skills at The Weald
Rowan Class had a brilliant time on Wednesday (12th October) taking part in a L-KS2 Multi-Skills festival organised by The Weald School. This was a fantastic opportunity which allowed all the children to get involved in various sporting activities in a fun and competitive way, against six other locality primary schools. They participated in relay type activities that aimed to improve agility, throwing and jumping etc. Mrs Calvert was impressed with the entire class who represented our school superbly, demonstrating some of our school values: collaboration, kindness and resilience! Mr Meaney even complimented us for our jumping skills! Thank you to everyone who helped at this event.
Talented Athletes Launch Event at The Weald
On Wednesday 5th October, some of our Year 5 and 6 children attended a Talented Athletes Launch Event at The Weald which was hosted by Mr Meaney. This is the first of three events they will attend throughout the year. The children participated in activities including: Orienteering, SAQ (Speed Agility and Quickness), Fitness and Ball Skills.
"I thought it was a really fun day as we did lots of different skills. It was good to mix with other schools too." (Libby, Year 5)
"This was my first time representing Loxwood and I really enjoyed it. We did activities to help us improve our speed. It was good to spend the day at The Weald and get to know it better." (Gideon, Year 6)
