Home Learning
At Loxwood, we believe that learning at home should nurture a love of learning, curiosity and independence.
Reading sits at the heart of everything we do. We encourage children to read at home every day, share books, and talk about what they are reading with anyone at home – even a pet! Alongside this, children are given topic grids with open-ended, cross-curricular activities designed to engage and challenge all learners.
In the junior years, children also use Learning By Questions (LBQ) to support and practise their maths learning at home. In Year 6, expectations for home learning increase slightly to help prepare children for secondary school.
Please see our Homework Policy for more information. You will also find helpful ideas and links on the individual year group pages below.
Supporting Learning from Home (Remote Learning)
Remote learning will only be used if a child is unable to attend school or in the event of a school closure. We recognise that every family’s circumstances are different and that levels of engagement with remote learning will vary.
Our position is clear: children’s physical and mental health and wellbeing are always the priority. If some remote learning is possible, that is great, but families should never feel pressured or guilty if this is not manageable.
In the infant classes, we use Tapestry to share home learning activities and communicate with families. In the junior classes, Google Classroom will be used to support learning if remote learning is required. Below are a selection of resources to support your child’s learning at home. If you require further support, please contact the school office.
